My dear Miss Beery-
It was kind of
you to write me about my
boy – Lt. Ralph C. Gifford Jr – I
do appreciate your thought in
doing so -
It is some comfort to know
that he had the best of care -
and that all was done for
him that was humanly possible.
He was my only child, and
it has been awfully hard for
me to reconcile myself to
what fate has decreed -
With heartfelt thanks for
your kind thoughtfulness-
